ABOUT THE THEME OF THE CONFERENCE:
It is with great honour and profound gratitude that we welcome all distinguished guests, scholars, practitioners, and partners to The 1st International Conference on Awqaf Management, Innovations, and Sustainability. This landmark gathering represents a historic moment for East Africa—marking the region’s first comprehensive platform dedicated to advancing the concept, governance, and transformative potential of Waqf.

As the host of this pioneering event, the Waqf Commission of Kenya is proud to bring together global expertise, local leadership, and visionary thinkers to explore how Awqaf can be revitalized as a strategic tool for socio-economic development. Across the Muslim world, Awqaf institutions have served as engines of education, healthcare, social welfare, economic empowerment, and community resilience. Today, as modern societies face new and complex challenges, the time has come to reimagine Waqf with creativity, innovation, and sustainable practices.

This conference aims to:

Strengthen understanding of Awqaf principles, governance, and legal frameworks

Highlight innovative models that harness Waqf for poverty reduction, entrepreneurship, and community development

Introduce digital and technological advancements that improve transparency and efficiency

Build regional and global partnerships that will shape the future of Awqaf in East Africa and beyond
